Missouri Trip May 2008

Day One

The first day of the road trip was spent driving to Amarillo, Texas. We spent the last hour of the trip watching a storm roll in and spotted a very pretty rainbow. Zoe liked looking at the rainbow and made the statement "I think that rainbow is making me happy". During dinner, she heard a blender running and proclaimed "They're making me a SMOOTHIE!" So, when the manager came by and I explained this to him, he had the bartender make up a special smoothie for Zoe. We all slept good and were ready for another day in the car.

Day Two

We got into Springfield just before dinner, so we stopped in at Lois', dropped the bags off and headed downtown. On our way, we decided to drive by our old house. Imagine our surprise when we saw it! BLUE! Then it was off to South Avenue Pizza Company, the much loved restaurant of our days in Springfield. Another disappointment... it had been sold and under new management complete with a new menu and cook. The pizza wasn't the same. Zoe had a good time tonite playing with Lois and her sister Esther (and walking around with her "sunglasses" on).

Day Three and Four - Farmington, Missouri

Visiting with Grandpa and Grandma was lots of fun. Zoe got to help dig in the flower bed and water flowers for Grandma. She enjoyed playing with Grandpa's extra cane and his back-scratcher. While we were there, Dave got his folks hooked up with a computer and internet connection so that they are able to watch Zoe's videos and see her pictures more frequently. She really enjoyed spending the time with them and enjoyed being able to play with her cousins.

Evening Four - Back in Springfield

It seemed like such a long trip back to Springfield. We were all tired of being in the car and ended up staying later than planned in Farmington. This meant we needed to change our visiting plans around a little in Springfield. We got back to Lois' and realized we needed to have dinner yet, so we headed out to our favorite little Mexican Restaurant, Cieleto Lindo's. As we were finishing dinner, a gentleman playing his guitar for tips came around, Zoe was so fascinated and excited, she got up and danced for him. Lois gave her some cash to give him and he played "laBamba" for her. She did such a good job trying to keep up, but there are a LOT of verses to that song! I should have taped it, but decided to just enjoy the moment with her.

Day Five and Six - On the Road Again

We started out on Sunday by meeting my friend Nancy for breakfast on our way out of town. This trip really needs to be made with a few more days for visiting, just not enough time in six days to do everything. The trip home wasn't too bad, we were all tired but got along pretty good. Here are just a few shots from the road:
