We decided that this would be a low-key birthday year. We took Zoe to the National Tiger Sanctuary that is about 30 minutes from where we live. Zoe and Dave had been there when they first moved to town with a friend of his and Zoe has been wanting to go back ever since.
Dave got some great pictures, below are just a few of our favorites. Don’t worry, there’s actually two sets of fencing between visitors and the cats. The stories that the tour guide told us were heart breaking in some cases – what she told us about the “Pay for Play” animals that you see in mall parking lots brought me to tears and I know the stories made an impact on Zoe.
The afternoon was spent at home, Zoe wanted to do her “own thing” in her room, which meant she wanted to do more rubber band looming. She’s been making dragons and other creatures, bracelets are just too easy, I guess.
Around 4 she decided it was time for cake! Why not? Dave got her some of her favorite gourmet cupcakes from a little shop downtown. The most important part of birthday’s is having cake the next day for breakfast, so says Zoe. So he got her 6 cupcakes. (Notice poor Lanfear sleeping on the couch cushion in the background? She doesn’t hear anything anymore, not even when there’s food. Worf, on the other hand, has his nose as close as he can get it).
Next was presents. Why not? We had a backwards birthday celebration for her – cake, presents, then dinner. Her daddy made her shrimp kabobs on the grill. So yummy!
Thank you, family, for the cards and presents and money. Zoe is in the process of writing her thank you notes to mail out soon.
